Wordpress vs Blogger best for blogging in 2020
Today we're going to discuss about the difference between blogger and WordPress and we'll discuss a little bit about the two versions of WordPress which are super confusing.
We're wordpress vs blogger they're both blogging platforms. they're both systems you can use to
start a website or a blog but they are different systems and it's
important to understand the difference. when you go shopping for a design or a theme for your system.
Working of blogger
blogger which is a hosted blogging platform run by Google. what hosted means is you don't have to buy any special hosting like SiteGround or Go Daddy. blogger does it all for you. all that backend stuff they also take care of updates and security.
Blogger
is free if you want to use a custom domain. it will cost you a couple
of dollars a year, but for the most part blogger is a great entry level
system but it is limited it's meant to be a blogging system.
it's
not meant to build a really elaborate website. you can get pretty
creative with blogger but it does have some important limitations to
remember. there are a few great things about blogger is that you don't
have to maintain your system. you don't have to worry about doing a lot
of maintenance or updates on plugins or that kind of thing but it does come with limitations.
Working of WordPress
So the other system I want to talk about is WordPress.
there are two versions of WordPress one is wordpress. it's a hosted
system a lot like blogger there's a free entry level plan and then
there's some plans you can buy for a certain dollars per month like to
use a custom domain.
It's a few dollars per month all the way up to about twenty-five dollars a month for their business plan. blogger
is nice because they worry about security they worry about updates and
things like that there are some limitations you can't use any outside
themes you can't upload a theme or a plugin unless you're using their
business plan which is their most expensive plan.
So wordpress
their
site looks like this you would come here and you would get started you
would sign up for a plan like I said there's a free plan, cannot use a
custom domain on their free plan.
the
personal plan is four dollars a month and you can use a custom domain.
there's premium which has a few extra features and then there's this
business plan for $25 a month and that gives you the unlimited.
If the ability to upload your own themes and style plugins
and upload themes so the other WordPress and this is the most popular
version and when people say you should use WordPress. this is the one
they're talking about is wordpress.org it's what's called self hosted.
Means
you have to buy hosting separate from the software. the software is
actually free it's called open-source. it's totally free and most hosts
have it on their list of software. that you can use and a lot of us have
what's called managed WordPress managed hosting.
For example our recommended host which is SiteGround
has WordPress managed hosting depending on what company you go with you
can pay anywhere from $3 a month up to $50 a month $100 a month depends
on how big a plan you need.
If you're getting started a startup
plan like the kind SiteGround has for 395 a month is enough. so if you
want to use self hosted WordPress which is the most recommended for
bloggers.
You're gonna need to get hosting first so you're gonna need to go to SiteGround
or another host like that you're gonna need to sign up for a plan. most
of them have a really easy WordPress installer to install it on your
new site and get ready to go.
There is
obviously some upfront costs a lot of them require you pay for a year at
a time so you're looking at about 50 to 270 dollars to get started for
most affordable hosts. so wordpress.org is great because you have total control you have control over your content.
you can create as an elaborative site as you want you can use any themes you want. you can use any plugins you want.
It does come with some downsides as far as you need to worry about your own security. you need to worry about updating your plugins.
you have to update WordPress if something goes wrong when you update
your WordPress your hosts may help you, but for the most part it's gonna
be on you to get it fixed. there's not as much support when you use a
self host WordPress.
Now that's not much courage you self-hosted wordpress is great. just be aware the difference between blogger vs wordpress and wordpress.org or self hosted WordPress.
The
major difference is the amount of work you're gonna have to do and the
things you're going to be responsible for so the final thing I'm going
to say is be aware that you cannot use a blogger, blog theme or design on WordPress.
If in the WordPress's you need to buy a theme that's specifically for WordPress, it says WordPress. if it says blogger, don't buy it. if you're using blogger
don't buy a wordpress theme. they're just not compatible. they use two
different languages two different file systems so there you go that's
the difference between blogger vs WordPress as far as kind of some basics and some technical aspects.
